The Old Man and the Sea

J’ai lu la version originale de The old man and the sea de Ernest Hemingway en anglais l’été dernier mais je fais une revue en anglais et en français. Avant de commencer, je partage quelques extraits qui me tiennent au coeur.

Review

The man and the sea is my first Pulitzer Prize’s reading. This is a well known novel. Hemingway illustred the story of an old fisherman who passed 84 days without catching any thing. He has never been disappointed and wish he get a great fish the day before. His dream comes true and he got a giant merlan. He was so patient to catch him. Although he was not that strong, he was intelligent and optimistic.

I found the story a little bit bored at the beginning but it was interesting when the man got the fish, he was alone for three days, he speak with the fish, with the sea, he think aloud. The dialogue is rich by lessons, lifestyle rules, patience and intelligence. It ‘s more than a fisherman looking for a fish.

Revue

C’est l’histoire d’un vieil homme, Santiago, un pêcheur qui va dans le golfe et s’engage dans la lutte de sa vie avec un marlin géant. Un vieillard qui se rapproche de la fin de ses jours en luttant contre un poisson géant symbolisant la nature, le temps et la mort. Il n’a pas réussi à pêcher le poisson du moins pas comme il l’avait prévu, mais il était, de manière inimitable, victorieux.

J’ai adoré ce livre. Ce n’est pas pour rien que cette nouvelle a eu le Pulitzer Prize de la fiction. J’ai du mal à réaliser que l’auteur de ce livre s’est suicidé. Je passais par des moments difficiles quand j’ai lu ce livre, Hemingway m’a donné de l’espoir et du courage pour ne pas baisser les bras et  relever des défis dans la quête d’un avenir meilleur. Je ne comprends pas comment ce grand esprit a eu une telle fin…

Si vous aimez les classiques, ce livre est pour vous mais ATTENTION je pense que ce livre ne convient pas aux jeunes ou très jeunes (parce que je suis encore jeune moi!.. bon bref j’ai utilisé trois fois l’adjectif jeune (quatre maintenant) dans une même phrase!)

Je t’envoie plein d’ondes positives, ne perds jamais l’espoir! La vie est belle, change ton ongle de vision et tu finiras par voir le bon coté des choses!

Readthon – #ORCReadthon4

Hello !

I participated to the 4th Readathon organized by the Group Our Reading Club. The Readathon has started on the 31st of JULY and ended on the 9th on AUGUST.

The challenges of this year are :

• Read a book by an author from a country that you want to visit 
• Read a non fiction book
• Listen to an audio book
• Read a book by a Tunisian author
• Read a book about mental illness
• Read a book that was originally written in a different language
• Read a book in Arabic

I wanted to share this post yesterday but I didn’t… Anyways, I planned to read 4 books for the#ORCreadathon4  but I’m suffering from reading slumps since December 2016 😭 OMG! I tried to read many books but I haven’t managed to finish one of them. It’s sad, so sad… when I saw the post of the readathon I remembered I’ve enjoyed the 3rd edition last year, so this could be my last chance to snap out this slump. And guess what, I did it! I listened to an audio book and I’ve read an other one 😄 Happy me!
Here is my TBR :

• Mathilda by Roald Dahl
• Invisible Kid by Atef Attia
• Sex and the city
• The magic of leadership
  

I managed to finish the first and the second book and I like both of them. (4/5 on goodreads)
So, I accomplished 4 challenges out of 7 :
* Read a book by an author from a country that you want to visit ( Mathilda / England)
* Listen to an audio book (Mathilda)
* Read a book by a Tunisian author ( Invisible Kid )
*Read a book about mental illness (Invisible Kid)
I wish I’ve read Mathilda when I was a child, I’m not sure but I think I ve already seen the movie. Nevertheless, I enjoyed listening to the storyteller. The little Mathilda is a genius who loves reading books although her parents are silly, they do not take care of her and try to stop her reading books! This girl managed to deal with bad people at the age of 4 and try to do her best to live with them without judging their behavior .I think I already love Dahl novels (I’ve enjoyed reading Charlie and the chocolate factory as well)
The second book, the first paper book I finished this year, (yeah !) Invisible Kid. Such a delightful book! I loved Atef Attia’s style. I’ve seen Essour though the scenes from the beginning to the end. I tried to imagine the background even if Atef don’t tell us where this novel takes place exactly. However, I didn’t like the end 😏 may be an invisible kid 2 to finish the story and tell us how Essour could deal with his new life ? Otherwise, this book is a good creative thriller.
I’m really happy to participate in the #ORCreadathon4. I loved the reviews and added some books to my TBR. See you next year dudes 😄

Book Review – Demain

Je reviens avec un nouveau article pour vous parler de “Demain” de Guillaume Musso.

C’est une histoire imaginaire, elle ne peut jamais se reproduire dans notre monde réel, je le savais mais j’ai dévoré ce livre en un temps record. Musso s’est inspiré des faits réels dont il a ajouté sa touche personnelle pour créer ce monde irréel riche en suspens.

J’ai lu ce bouquin il y a un mois et j’ai retenu ces points :

• L’amour est aveugle, on peut tout faire pour voir notre amoureux heureux mais s’il trahit cette relation tout cet amour se transforme en haine et mépris.

• Il ne faut jamais s’arrêter sur le premier accident rencontré dans la vie mais il faut être fort et poursuivre son chemin parce que si ça se trouve cet accident nous a sauvé la vie. Demain nous cache surement des surprises !
• (Ce dernier point peut-être un spoiler) on peut aimer une personne sans la reconnaitre vraiment, on peut se marier, avoir des enfants, la mort peut nous séparer sans connaitre le vrai visage de notre conjoint. Parfois, il faut éviter de chercher la vérité car c’est difficile d’accepter la réalité… d’accepter l’infidélité du conjoint, et le pire de découvrir que c’est un amour fictif. Kate était à la recherche d’un modèle, un prototype et Mathew s’est trouvé sur son chemin par hasard , elle a tout fait pour le laisser à coté d’elle, en simulant des sentiments, des moment de bonheur, tout une vie…

J’ai pas aimé la fin du roman, on dirait que Musso était à cours des idées et voulais juste boucler “Demain” pour passer à autre chose. D’ailleurs je l’ai donné 4/5 étoiles dans Goodreads pour cette raison.
